Mad About Plaid Luncheon

Picture
The month of July featured a special luncheon sponsored by the City of Beachwood and the Beachwood Historical Society.  The theme was plaid.  Guests were greeted by bag pipe player Bruce Greig wearing his special plaid.

Patty Edmonson from the Cleveland History Center shared how Queen Victoria brought plaid to the masses.  Plaid has evolved through fashions of grunge, chic, classic, preppies, urban woodsman and even hipsters.  Fashion designers like Pendleton and McQueen are known for their use of plaids.  The presentation also explored plaid in America and NE Oho, highlighting recognizable brands, pop culture and the history behind it all  What do you have in your closet made from plaid?  Do you know that there is even a Cleveland plaid made of orange and brown colors?

A delicious luncheon was served.  Guests were also invited to view clothing that was on loan from Ursuline College's School of Fashion.  Plaid Placemats and decorations were colorful and popped.  What a delightful and interesting summer afternoon in the Community Center!
